   So where is he? They asked, I don't know. He said, yes, we're going to hear the moment. Father God, we are thankful to be here. We're thankful for this opportunity, God, to see this place, this wonderful place. Father, what we know, that a great miracle had taken place.

   Jesus was here and healed a man born blind. We don't know, maybe he healed others while he was here. Father, we're thankful for that.

   We're thankful for this opportunity. We're thankful for that man. We know that he got to the side of that, but he also received what was most important. It's actually from Jesus and salvation.

5. Historical Context of the Southern Steps

   Amen. Well, some of you may not know, but where we're standing is the southern steps, as he just said, as we're entering into the temple. And this would have most likely been the place where Peter stood and preached on the day of Pentecost.

   So I'm going to read for us Acts chapter 2 and just give you one quick encouraging word. It said, Peter stood up with the eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed,

   Fellow Jews and all residents of Jerusalem, let this be known unto you today, and pay attention to my words. For these people are not drunk, as you suppose,

   since it is only nine in the morning. On the contrary, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel.

   And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my spirit, and on all my people, then your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will

   dream dreams. I will even pour out my spirit on the servants in those days. Both men and women in those days will prophesy.

   I will display the wonders of heaven above the signs of the earth and below the blood and fire with a cloud of smoke.

   The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, and before the great glorious day of the Lord comes. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. That's verses 14 through 21.

   There's a passage where he preaches longer, but I'm going to skip down to verses 37 through 38. It says, when they heard this, they were pierced to their heart, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brothers, what should we do? And Peter replied, a simple reply,

   This is the scene where Peter stood and preached to these people.

   The Bible records that, as you read the next verse, that 3,000 men repented, and 3,000 men got saved that day. They would have likely went down. We passed a mikvah right over here. They would have likely went down in that mikvah and gotten baptized right there.

   And Peter would have had the very first baptism service for the very first church service that was existed in the book of Acts. And the men that were there said, what should we do with this information that we've been given? And Peter replied, the same message that we have today.

   Repent, believe on Jesus, and receive the Holy Spirit. We have the same message. We have the same power. We get to experience on the steps that that happened here today ourselves. Father, we thank you for this day. We thank you for this day. My heart has been overwhelmed by walking the pilgrim's path up this way.

8. Exploring Jesus' Teachings

   As we took in the sights, as we took in what was happening, as we took in all the different areas where Jesus would have stopped and he would have talked and his disciples would have asked him questions. Lord, we got to experience that.

   We saw the wall where you would have came up and we saw where Peter would have stood today and preached. Father, my heart is encouraged.

   My heart is overwhelmed. As I recently finished preaching the book of Acts, where we got to see and experience the church, the birth of the church.

   But it just doesn't end there. God, we have now had the opportunity as Acts ends to take on the message of the gospel and to continue to proclaim it forward. Help us to have the boldness that Peter had. Peter didn't shy away. He could have. He denied Jesus. He made mistakes.

   He made problems in his life. And yet he put those things away to come forward and to preach this glorious message that we heard.

   Lord, help us to be bold for you and to share the message of the gospel so that people would ask the questions, what do we do now? My heart is stirred and I've got to do something. Help us to have that same boldness today, Father. In your name we pray. Amen.
