Podcast Introduction and Theme
For freedom, he set me free. Not for change, not for guilt, not for Pharisee. Grace lit the flame, now I'm puffing peace. Cigars and victory justified, released.
Welcome to the 4-Freedom Podcast. This podcast exists to bring the freedom of the gospel for everyday Christians with everyday issues.
I ain't saved by dress codes, not by what I eat. I'm covered in the righteousness, washed from head to feet. No tally of tradition, no man-made code.
Blood bought my freedom, now I ride that road. They clutch pearls when they see smoke rings rise. But my praise still ascends past the legalist cries. Christ plus nothing, that's the real math.
So miss me with your fence laws and your extra path. He sat with sinners, I'm sitting with saints. Sipping grace from the bottle, no room for fakes. I light one for liberty, toast to the king. Every ash a sermon, death has lost its sting.
I don't know I'm puffing peace. I don't know I'm puffing peace. I don't know I'm puffing peace.
Now here are your hosts, James Safrit and Brett Martin. Thank you, Dr. Barrett. This opportunity to read just a portion of the worship team. And give you something. Our reading comes from the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 4. And the scriptures that are given are verses of 23, verse number 30.
And if you read those two verses, and back up, I'll get to the text and give you what I thought the Lord is in. I want my heart.
The Bible said this in Luke, Chapter 4, verse 29. And they rose up and thrust him out of the city and bent him up to the ground of the hill whereon their city was built. That they might cast him down ahead on.
But he passed him through the midst of them and went his way.
So again, we understand what is going on within the context here in the Gospel of Luke. In the Gospel of Luke, if you really go all the way back to Luke, Chapter 4, in the beginning, you begin to see where Jesus was tempted of the devil.
And we know how Jesus responded to Satan there. Of course, he responds as it is written through the Word of God. And as you continue to read through the Book of Luke, Chapter 4,
so he's dealing with the Word of God. He's dealing with the truth of the Word. There in every temptation.
Christ. And then when you come down to the text here in Chapter 4, verse 16.
The Bible said this, that he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up. And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read.
Jesus and the Book of Isaiah
And here's the verse. The Bible said that he was delivered to heal the Book of the Prophet Isaiah.
And so, the Bible said that again, he opens up the Word of God. He opens up the Book of Isaiah in the first place. Matter of fact, if you go back to, I believe it's Isaiah 61. And verse number 1, Jesus begins to quote that verse from the Word of God.
And this is what he had to say to them at Luke's Gospel. He's fulfilling what he had stated,
what a God Isaiah had stated in Isaiah 61. And this is what he said, the Spirit of the Lord is holy. He has sent me to heal the broken heart, to preach no leverage to the captives, and recovery of the cycle,
to sit at liberty field that are removed. And so, here's the whole purpose of what Jesus was being rejected for.
He rejected simply because of the Word that he had given to them.
It was simply what he had said, but it was basically about who it said. It was the Lord Jesus Christ.
And then again in the text, the Bible said in Luke chapter 4, verse 24, And he began to say to them, this day is a scripture filled in your ears. So what Jesus was doing, he was fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah 61,
and basically stating who he was. He was the Son of God. He is the Messiah. He is the living King. And so, he was giving them the truth.
And the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ. And again, we know that the Word of God is true.
Because of John 17. John 17, verse number 17, said this, Sanctify them through thy word. He said, thy word is true. And so, we know that Jesus Christ is true.
And so, according to John 14, we know the scripture well. In John 14, Jesus said, in his words, I am the way of the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me. And so, therefore, Jesus, he has in this text telling you, that he has come to preach the gospel to the whole.
And so, therefore, he was saying, I am the one that has come.
And that brings us to speed up to John chapter 1, verse number 11, where the Bible said this, He came unto his own, but his own received him not. But then in verse number 12, he said, But as many as received them, to them give you power to become the sons of God.
And so, here's the scripture I'm really looking at. I'm thinking about this text. I'm thinking about it's centered around the truth.
The Word of God Explained
And it's centered around the Word of God. Again, Jesus answered Satan as it is written. He said, I'm the Word of God. I'm the truth.
John once said at the beginning, It was the Word of God. The Word of God is the Word of God. So, the Word of God is the Word of Jesus Christ.
And so, when we come to these verses, and we see the scene in the red, now I can visualize why they said they wanted to throw him down the hill. They wanted to throw him down on his head. And so, here's the truth of the matter.
If they were to throw Jesus down on his head, that would have not been the fulfillment of prophecy and the fulfillment of scripture. So, here's the truth that we've seen right here in this day. Jesus just went by his way. And here's the truth I'm going to give you today.
Jesus Christ is the only God we have. And I want to say this. I am so glad to be in Israel. Oh, man, it has been an honor. It has been a privilege. And, man, I'm so glad that Jesus Christ is the truth. He's the Son of the living God. And there is no salvation outside of the Lord Jesus Christ.
And I sure am glad that I have received the truth. But I have not rejected the truth. And thank God for Jesus today. Amen.
I pray for you. All right, let's pray. Heavenly Father, I want to thank you more for this day. I want to thank you, Lord, for this time, God, that we have had together. And, Lord, I want to thank you, God, for allowing us to walk exactly where you have walked in these days.
So, Lord, I thank you, Father, for saving us.
I thank you, Lord, for changing our lives. Thank you, Father, for giving us the truth through the gospel of Jesus Christ. And, Lord, I'm so glad, Lord, as an 11-year-old little boy, I received that truth and believed you by faith to save me. And, God, you did that.
And I want to thank you for that. Lord, if there be somebody here today that's never been saved, that's never received the gospel, I pray, Father, today that, Lord, today would be the day. Behold, now is the time of salvation.
So, Lord, I thank you, Father, for saving me. I thank you for changing my life. And, Father, I pray that you continue to bless. And I pray that you would continue to help us to learn, apply everything and every truth to our hearts. And we'll thank you in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Amen.
I'll fly away.
Closing Song Segment
I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away. I'll fly away.
When I found my beginning that has no ending, found that second chance, found my best friend, found my forgiveness, found my happiness. I've been singing ever since I found my freedom in you.
