This is the For Freedom Podcast. This podcast exists to bring to light the legalism and abuse in the independent fundamental Baptist movement and to encourage believers to grow in grace through the scriptures. Now, here's your host, John Holyfield. Welcome to the For Freedom Podcast. I am your host, John Holyfield. Thank you for listening. This is going to be an introduction episode to this, and what I want to do is just lay out sort of what this is going to be about and sort of the direction that we're going with this podcast. And this is the beginning of also a bigger endeavor, which is going to be For Freedom Ministries. And let me just break down sort of what that encompasses. This is the idea of the burden and the passion from this comes from the verse in Galatians 5.1. It was for freedom that Christ set us free. Therefore, keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. And this is the translation of the New American Standard. And that little section where Paul talks to the churches in Galatia, it was for freedom that Christ set us free. And this podcast is going to be about bringing this message that for those in the body of Christ, and maybe you're not in the body of Christ, but for anybody that's been trapped in the legalistic form of Christianity, it is this podcast's goal to expose legalism, help those who may have been abused, encourage them to grow in God's grace, and to accomplish all of these through the Word of God by expounding the Scriptures. Now, it is going to be the goal to expose legalism and talk about this. Now, it is my background, and what I know more about is the legalism that exists within the independent fundamental Baptist movement. Now, I know that legalism exists in many different forms of religious organizations and Christian organizations, but my experiences are in the independent fundamental Baptist movement. I am not going to be opposed to explaining and getting into legalism and other forms, but this is where the podcast is predominantly going to do, because this is where the experience and credibility is for myself. We will discuss legalism, and we'll discuss different forms. We're going to talk about abuse and different things like that, and discuss abuse in the church and the different forms of abuse. And again, I know that abuse does not exist only within the independent fundamental Baptist church. We all know about the abuse that exists within the Roman Catholic Church, and then recently the articles that came out about the Southern Baptist Church. Basically, any organization, whether it's religious or not, that is of any size is going to have within its ranks abuse happen in it. And so it's not going to be, we're not going to try to find all the different abuses going on and all of those things, but we want to identify the abuse, and I think that one of the sad things is that the independent fundamental Baptist movement has really neglected at calling out and pointing out abuses in that movement and dealing with it. It's been covered up just as bad in the independent fundamental Baptist movement as it has in other movements. And so I think that this needs to be called out, and I know that there's other organizations and different things that are starting to come to light that's going to try to do this, and we will give encouragement to those that are doing it on that front and make sure that we recognize that as well. We're also going to do interviews in this podcast and interview those that have different insights to talk about, maybe different stories to talk about in the discussions that we're going to go through. We're also going to do something called Casual Fridays. Whenever you see a Casual Friday episode released, that basically means we're going to take a break from the heavy stuff and from the theological stuff sometimes, and we're going to just discuss something fun, maybe pop culture, maybe sports, maybe just something that happens. But this is going to be a podcast. These are going to be the avenues that we direct this podcast, but also every now and again we may just have, if something just strikes me and I want to deal with it, then we may do that as well.
